Graphics Work - Sushi Packaging: Grey Coat School

Scheme of Work: Sushi Packaging, KS4

Using fine liners, thin brush and water to give depth to illustrations

You have been commissioned by a Japanese restaurant to design takeaway packaging and a menu. The packaging must contain 6 sushi rolls, each roll is 40mm in diameter. The surface graphics should reflect Japanese culture and include the name of the restaurant ‘So Sushi’. The company is particularly concerned with environmental issues which should be taken into account when choosing materials, size and amount of packaging.

Y10 students produced:
A design folder
A prototype package suitable for batch production
A menu design using Photoshop

Initial ideas being put into practice

Using simple origami techniques to create containers

Loose graphic sketches to illustrate design layout

Each page meticulously stylized to encourage individuality. Ownership of work.

Novel idea for packaging handles

Complex origami techniques mastered over a double lesson

Another example of the above
